Download YouTube Shorts in Their Original Format

Shorts move fast and leave your feed just as quickly. Paste the Shorts link into ClipSave and keep the ones worth keeping — the tool recognises a Shorts URL automatically and returns the vertical file as it was uploaded.

Nothing installs, no account is needed, and the flow is identical on a phone and a desktop: paste, Fetch, Download.

Save what you have the right to save. A public Short is not a licence to republish someone else's work.

How to Download a YouTube Short

Step 1 — Open the Short in the YouTube app or on youtube.com.

Step 2 — Tap Share, then Copy link. On desktop, copying the address bar works just as well.

Step 3 — Paste it into the box above and press Fetch. ClipSave asks YouTube which resolutions exist for that video.

Step 4 — Pick a quality if more than one is offered, then press Download.

Which Shorts Links Work

The short-form address youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID is the usual one, and it resolves here.

So do the other forms YouTube hands out for the same video: a normal watch link (youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID) and a youtu.be share link. They all point at the same video ID, which is what matters.

What cannot be fetched: private and unlisted videos you do not have the link for, members-only content, and anything age-restricted behind a sign-in. YouTube serves those only to an authenticated session, and ClipSave never asks for your Google login.

Quality, Aspect Ratio and Playback

Shorts are vertical, normally 1080x1920, and they download in exactly that shape — nothing is cropped or padded on our side.

Files arrive as MP4 with the audio inside, which plays on any phone, TV or desktop and imports into CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve without conversion.

Available resolutions depend on the upload. A Short filmed on a recent phone usually offers 1080p; older or heavily compressed uploads offer less. We do not re-encode, so there is no second round of compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with the mobile Shorts link or only desktop?
Both. Copy the share link from the YouTube app on your phone or the URL from a desktop browser — either one resolves here.
Will the video keep its original vertical format?
Yes. Shorts download in the same vertical aspect ratio they were uploaded in, with no cropping or padding added.
Can I download a Short without the YouTube app installed?
Yes. ClipSave runs entirely in your mobile browser, so no app installation is required.
Is there a watermark on the downloaded file?
No. ClipSave adds nothing to the video. Anything a creator burned into their own Short is part of the video itself.
Why does a Short fail to download?
Usually because it is private, members-only, age-restricted, or has been deleted. YouTube serves those only to a signed-in account that is allowed to see them.
Can I download the audio from a Short?
Not from this page — use our YouTube to MP3 converter, which extracts the audio track instead of the video.
