Save Instagram Stories Before They Vanish

Instagram Stories disappear after 24 hours — and Instagram offers no built-in way to download someone else's Story. ClipSave lets you save any public Story as an MP4 file before it expires.

Paste the Story link into ClipSave, click Fetch, and download. The video is saved to your device exactly as it appears on Instagram — same quality, no watermark.

Useful for saving memories, archiving your own Stories before they expire, or keeping a favorite Story from a creator you follow.

How to Get an Instagram Story Link

Getting a Story link is slightly different from Reels:

• On mobile: Open the Story, tap the three-dot menu (⋯), and select "Copy link" (available for public accounts). • From a DM: If someone shared a Story with you in a direct message, tap "View Story" then copy the link from the share sheet. • From a story viewer: Some third-party story viewer sites generate direct links you can paste here.

Once you have the link, paste it into ClipSave and download within seconds.

Private vs Public Stories

ClipSave can only download Stories from public Instagram accounts. Stories from private accounts that you follow cannot be fetched through our service — Instagram restricts access at the link level.

For your own Stories: tap the Story, hit the three-dot menu, and choose "Save to camera roll." That's the fastest way to archive your own content.

For public creator Stories: paste the link here and download before the 24-hour window closes.

Why Stories Expire, and What That Means for Saving Them

A Story is live for 24 hours and then leaves the profile. Instagram keeps the creator's own copy in their archive, but everyone else loses access at the deadline — there is no "recently expired" view to fall back on.

That makes timing the whole game. A link that resolved this morning may return nothing tonight, and nothing can recover it: the content is no longer being served to anyone.

Highlights are the exception. When a creator pins a Story to a Highlight it stays on the profile permanently, and our Highlights downloader handles those.

Photo Stories and Video Stories

Stories come in both forms. A video Story downloads as MP4; a photo Story downloads as an image file. ClipSave shows a preview first, so you can see which one you are about to save.

Stickers, polls, music attribution and link buttons are interface elements Instagram draws over the media. Some are rendered into the stored file and some are not, which is why a saved Story can look slightly plainer than it did in the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download someone's Instagram Story?
You need a link to a Story from a public account. Open it, tap the three-dot menu, choose Copy link, then paste it above and press Fetch before the 24 hours run out.
Can I save a Story after it has expired?
No. Instagram stops serving it at the 24-hour mark, so there is nothing left for any tool to fetch. Only the creator keeps a copy, in their own archive.
Does the person know I saved their Story?
ClipSave sends no notification. Instagram does show creators who viewed a Story, which is separate and happens when you watch it in the app.
Can I download Stories from a private account?
No, even if you follow them. Instagram serves that media only to a signed-in session, and ClipSave never asks for your login.
How do I save my own Story?
Use Instagram itself — open your Story, tap the three-dot menu and choose Save. That is faster and keeps the original quality.
What format will I get?
A video Story saves as MP4 and a photo Story saves as an image. The preview shows which before you download.
