Instagram Profile Picture Downloader

Being direct: ClipSave cannot download profile pictures. Our Instagram resolver works on posts — Reels, videos, photos and carousels — and Instagram serves avatars through a different route that we do not currently support.

We would rather say so than show you a box that takes your link and fails.

What does work today: any public post. If the image you want was posted to the grid, paste the post link into our Instagram photo downloader and it saves in full quality.

Instagram shows an avatar as a circle roughly 150 pixels across on a profile, and smaller again next to a comment. What it stores is larger — commonly 320 pixels square, and up to about 1080 for recently uploaded images.

The circle is a CSS mask, not the file. The stored image is square, and the corners you cannot see are still there.

That is why a profile picture never looks sharp when you screenshot and crop it: you are enlarging the small rendered version rather than retrieving the larger stored one.

On desktop, open the profile, right-click the page and choose Inspect, then search the markup for "profile_pic_url_hd". The address next to it points at the largest stored copy, and you can open it in a new tab and save it normally.

On a phone, the simplest route is to ask: if it is your own account, Instagram lets you download your data, which includes your avatar at full size. For someone else's, request it from them.

Private accounts serve no avatar at all to logged-out visitors, so nothing in this section applies to them.

A profile picture is usually a photograph of a person, and it is theirs. Checking you have the right account before sending money or sharing something is one thing; reposting a stranger's face is another.

Some jurisdictions treat a person's likeness as protected regardless of where the image was found, and platforms treat impersonation as a reportable offence.

Save what you have a reason to save, and do not republish someone else's photograph without asking.
