Can You Download Facebook Videos?

Facebook does not offer a built-in video download button for most content. Videos play in the feed, but you can't save them natively — except for a few video types where Facebook provides a Download option (usually your own uploads). Third-party tools extract the direct MP4 URL from Facebook's CDN to let you save any public video.

How to Download a Facebook Video

Step 1: Find the Video and Copy Its URL

On mobile: tap the three dots (···) in the top right of the post and select Copy Link. On desktop: right-click the video and choose Show Video URL, or click the three dots on the post and select Copy Link. You can also open the video in its own tab and copy the URL from the address bar — it will look like facebook.com/watch?v=1234567890 or fb.watch/....

Step 2: Paste into ClipSave

Go to ClipSave's Facebook downloader. Paste the video URL into the input field and click Fetch. The tool resolves the direct video file from Facebook's servers.

Step 3: Pick Quality and Save

Facebook typically offers HD (720p or 1080p) and SD (360p–480p) versions. Select HD for the best quality. Click Download to save the MP4 file.

Facebook Watch, Reels, and Live Videos

Facebook Watch videos (on the Watch tab) work the same as regular post videos — copy the URL from the browser. Facebook Reels (short vertical videos) are also supported through ClipSave's Facebook downloader. For best results use our dedicated Facebook Reels downloader.

Facebook Live recordings: once a live stream ends, Facebook saves it as a regular video post. If the video remains public, you can download it the same way as any other Facebook video.

Private Videos

If a video is set to Friends Only or Only Me, it's behind Facebook's authentication wall. A URL-based downloader working in an unauthenticated browser cannot access those files. Only public videos are downloadable through third-party tools.

Why Facebook Videos Are Sometimes Blocked

Facebook occasionally changes how it serves video URLs, which can temporarily affect third-party tools. If a download fails, try refreshing the page and copying a fresh link — tracking parameters sometimes corrupt the URL.
