How to Download Videos on Android (2026)

Download videos on Android phone

Android's Download Advantage

Android is more open than iOS when it comes to file downloads. Files downloaded in Chrome or Firefox go directly to the Downloads folder (accessible in the Files app or Gallery), and from there you can move them anywhere — including your Gallery. This makes browser-based video downloading seamless on Android.

Downloading Videos on Android with Chrome

Step 1: Copy the Video URL

Open the social media app (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.) and copy the video's share link via the Share > Copy Link function.

Step 2: Use ClipSave in Chrome

Open Chrome (or Firefox, or any Android browser). Go to ClipSave and select your platform. Paste the link and tap Fetch.

Step 3: Download

Tap Download. Chrome shows a download bar at the bottom of the screen. The file saves to your Downloads folder automatically.

Step 4: View in Gallery

Open your Files app or Gallery app. Depending on your Android skin (Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, etc.), downloaded videos may appear automatically in the Gallery, or you may need to navigate to Files > Downloads first.

Android Permissions for Downloads

On Android 10 and below, apps need Storage Permission to save files. In Chrome's case, the browser handles this natively. On Android 11+, files in the Downloads folder are accessible without special permissions.

Download Manager Apps for Android

If you prefer a dedicated tool, 1DM (IDM-style Download Manager) or Download Navi give you more control over download speed, queuing, and file organization. They integrate with the browser to intercept and manage downloads.

Where Are Downloads Saved on Android?

Default path: Internal Storage > Download or Internal Storage > Downloads. You can change Chrome's default download location in Chrome Settings > Downloads > Download Location — including saving to an SD card if your device has one.
